JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Provide engineering, technical oversight and ensures the safety in the various Fossil environments such as: Plants, Plant support, and Fleet Maintenance.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures engineering work is performed and programs implemented consistent with defined standards.

  • Develops, plans and coordinates or implements projects, corrective action plans and improvement programs to address plant problems or issues.

  • Lead/assist/perform causal analysis of plant component failures, environmental and compliance related items, and operational events.

  • Project Management & Technical oversight/ Coordinate and execute betterment capital and O&M projects, interface with plant production and maintenance, project personnel, and other stake holders. Ensure plant modification process is followed on projects. Provide project and maintenance troubleshooting of equipment to address issues in a timely manner. Provide oversight of engineering activities of external firms, including development of work scopes, and solicitation and evaluation of proposals, project planning and controls, review of deliverables, installation support, and start-up assistance.

  • Responsibilities include supporting start-ups, shutdowns and the continuous operation of turbines/generators, boilers, and associated equipment. Participating as part of the planned outage team working with plant management, craft, contractors, alliance partners and technical experts in inspecting and repairing plant equipment.

  • Assess plant KPI criteria/ Improve plant processes, support plant staff in establishing action plans to close gaps, and track action plan progress through completion. Support reliability processes.

  • Provide interface with equipment OEMs. Provide engineering support for plant modifications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

B.S. Degree in Engineering, Mechanical

Desired Qualifications: Familiar with the principles of operation of steam boilers, turbine-generators, motors, pumps, heaters, water chemistry equipment and simple loop controls.

Minimum experience required of the position

Engineer II: 2-4 years of applicable and progressive experience.

Engineer III: 4-6 years of applicable and progressive experience.

Engineer Sr: 6 years of applicable and progressive experience.

Desired Qualifications: Technical understanding of power generation principles and operation. Technical understanding of turbines and generators. Knowledge of welding, piping systems, pump operation/maintenance/repair.

Demonstrates good engineering judgment. Strong engineering analysis and problem solving skills as required by the specific job. Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.
