Entergy Pipeman Apprentice - Pipeman 1st Class in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
Entergy has entered into an agreement to sell its Louisiana gas distribution business to Bernhard Capital Partners. The sale is expected to close in approximately the third quarter of 2025.
Entergy has no planned reduction in workforce as a result of this sale, and intends to operate the business as usual prior to the sale.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Under general supervision, with some latitude for planning or laying out work details, must be able to perform manual labor requiring skill, training or experience involving the responsibility to drive light and heavy duty trucks with or without trailer; operate machinery and equipment to perform pipe work in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution system, and must be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:
Plan, lay out, lead, train, and direct all work and crews in a safe and efficient manner.
Operate all machinery and equipment from other classifications including operation of a directional boring machine.
Demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities on specific covered task of the position for the purpose of complying with Department of Transportation, Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Apprentice Pipeman: Must have one year of experience in basic construction, mechanical, or related technical fields.
Pipeman 2nd Class: Must have worked for two years and qualified as Apprentice Pipeman or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.
Pipeman 1st Class: Must have worked for two years and qualified as 2nd Class Pipeman - Gas Department, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.
Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Have thorough knowledge of city and state traffic laws, including regulations regarding the hauling of heavy equipment, trailers, etc.
Know city streets, and roads in rural sections.
Able to identify abnormal operating conditions
Know Company's safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid.
Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (examples such as., accessing electronic mapping information, collecting, and interpreting electronic pipe locating and leak detection information)
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to detect presence of natural gas.
Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.
Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Be particularly alert in observing hazards, abnormal operating conditions, and avoiding accidents.
Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of superiors and co-workers.

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing.
