Entergy Serviceman - Gas Department 1 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

**Entergy has entered into an agreement to sell its Louisiana gas distribution business to Bernhard Capital Partners.

The sale is expected to close in approximately the third quarter of 2025.

Entergy has no planned reduction in workforce as a result of this sale, and intends to operate the business as usual prior to the sale.

This position may be filled as a Serviceman 2nd Class (2/C) through 1st Class (1/C) based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Under directive supervision, with little latitude for planning or laying out of working details, must be able to perform work of average difficulty following established principles, methods, policies, rules and regulations involved in the adjustment of customer's complaints on high or low gas pressure service, and the adjustment of mechanical defects in gas appliances, install or remove gas appliances, meters, regulators and related piping, fabricate and assemble gas meter connections, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  • Able to identify abnormal operating conditions.

  • Operate, test, inspect gas appliances such as gas ranges, water heaters, furnaces, and other gas appliances in shop or on customers' premises, make evaluation to determine if appliances operate safely.

  • Clean and adjust burners.

  • Connect, and adjust gas appliances on customers' premises if required for testing. They should have at least one appliance connected themselves.

  • Install, remove, and repair all types of services, meters, regulators, fabricate, and assemble meter connections.

  • Locate and repair gas leaks on customers' premises.

  • Pump drips on mains and services.

  • Inspect industrial and, commercial, residential, and gas fired equipment, such as boilers, food service appliances, etc.; connect, adjust burner, controls, thermostats, etc if required for testing.

  • Make complete investigation and write detailed report on any explosion, accident, fire, or damage or any kind on which assigned.

  • Check operation of and adjust any individual pressure reducing equipment. Leave this if we are going to adjust WH’s.

  • Lock and unlock meters.

  • Direct work of assistants, instruct and train new employees usually reserved for first Class.

  • Demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities on specific covered task of the position for the purpose of complying with Department of Transportation, Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Serviceman 2/C:

  • Must have worked for at least two years, and qualified, as an Apprentice - Gas Department No Apprentice position, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Be able to qualify for automobile or truck operator's license.

  • Know city streets and roads in rural sections.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of material and use of tools and equipment.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the distribution system, services, and meters.

  • Have a thorough working knowledge of Company's distribution practices and standards.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with Company's service policies, rate schedules and their application.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of Company regulations and state laws governing disconnects for non-payment, repossession of merchandise, and diversion of gas.

  • Have a practical knowledge of the fundamentals involved in gas burning equipment, meters, regulators, piping systems, and related apparatus.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the city plumbing code.

  • Be able to perform semi-routine operations of moderate complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.

  • Know Company's safety rules, and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.

  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (examples such as, accessing electronic mapping information, collecting, and interpreting electronic pipe locating and leak detection information.)

Serviceman 1/C :

  • Must have worked for at least two years, and qualified, as a Serviceman 2nd Class - Gas Department, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Be able to qualify for automobile or truck operator's license.

  • Know city streets, and roads in rural sections.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of material and use of tools and equipment.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the distribution system, services, and meters.

  • Have a thorough working knowledge of Company's distribution practices and standards.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with Company's service policies, rate schedules and their application.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of Company regulations and state laws governing disconnects for non-payment, repossession of merchandise, and diversion of gas.

  • Understand the elementary theory of gas combustion and have a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals involved in gas burning equipment, meters, regulators, piping systems, and related apparatus.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the city plumbing code.

  • Be able to perform semi-routine operations of considerable complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.

  • Be able to understand and perform a wide variety of non-routine work where only general methods of procedure are available.

  • Know Company's safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid.

  • Know the location of, and be able to operate, all the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil, gas, and other fires.

  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (examples such as, accessing electronic mapping information, collecting, and interpreting electronic pipe locating and leak detection information.)

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to detect presence natural gas.

  • Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.

  • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.

  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.

  • Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.
