**NOTE: This position can be filled as a Relayman 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class, depending on candidate's qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.**


  • Perform routine & emergency maintenance on protective relay systems and SCADA RTUs.

  • Perform AC and DC operational checks.

  • Perform relay calibration checks using computerized test equipment.

  • Perform relay/SCADA installations and checkouts.

  • Must be able to perform substation switching.

  • Supply personal tools used in work.

  • Maintain automobile and truck driver's license, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.

  • Be willing to obtain working knowledge of Company's practices and standards as related to work.

  • Have practical working knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment.

  • Be able to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.

  • Be able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.

  • Be willing to learn Company's electrical and mechanical tagging rules and requirements for a qualified switchman.

  • Satisfactorily complete all necessary and mandatory training requirements associated with the position

  • Must be available for 24 hour callout and extended hours.


  • Ability to read, understand and follow electrical schematic diagrams, technical manuals and instruction books.

  • Experience in Substation maintenance and construction preferred

  • Knowledge in use of personal computers.

  • Relayman 3rd Class requires 2 years related experience or 2 year vo-tech degree in electronics / instrumentation.

  • Relayman 2nd Class requires 4 years related experience of 2 year vo-tech degree in electronics / instrumentation and2 years related experience.

  • Relayman 1st Class requires 6 years related experience or 2 year vo-tech degree in electronics / instrumentation and 4 years related experience.


  • Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.

  • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.

  • Able to work extended hours in support of overtime or emergency work including callouts.

  • Good hand-eye coordination, physical dexterity, and color vision.

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards communicating issues, and avoiding accidents.

  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.

  • Be able to work out of town assignments as required.

  • Possess keen faculties of observation.

  • Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.

  • Have a temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision, and patience are particularly essential.

  • Be able to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner.
