Entergy Substation Technician in Blytheville, Arkansas

Job Title: Substation Technician

Work Place Flexibility: Onsite

* This position may be filled as a Substation Helper 1st Year, Apprentice 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Year, or Substation Technician based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. *

* The selected candidate is required to live within or relocate within 40 miles of the service area headquarters. This position does not offer relocation benefits.*

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Under close supervision, as an apprentice in training, must be able to perform the less difficult tasks and assist others in high and low voltage work involved in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution conductors, structures, substations, underground systems, and related equipment, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  • Assist in the erection of substation structures, including foundations;

  • Work on energized conductors up to 600 volts;

  • Install miscellaneous hardware, grounds, fittings during construction, buss supports, and conductors on dead circuits;

  • Perform transmission and distribution switching;

  • Tie knots and splice rope;

  • Assist qualified mechanic in simple routine inspection and maintenance;

  • Assist in the handling, moving and installation of all transmission, distribution and plant equipment, machinery, etc.;

  • Assist in testing and filtering oil and minor repairs to transformers, oil circuit breakers, regulations, etc.;

  • Prepare reports and records;

  • Operate Company’s trucks and automobiles;

  • Prepare reports and records.

  • Operate Company's vehicles and equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position:

• A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience:

  • Helper 1st Year: 0 years experience required

  • Substation Apprentice 1st Year: worked for at least 1 year as a qualified Helper, Helper Substation Dept., OR have equivalent experience in related work having all the qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Substation Apprentice 2nd Year: worked at least 1 year as a qualified Substation Apprentice 1st Year - Substation Dept., OR have had equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Substation Apprentice 3rd Year: worked at least 1 year as a qualified Substation Apprentice 2nd Year, OR have had equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Substation Apprentice 4th Year: worked at least 1 year as a qualified Substation Apprentice 3rd Year, OR have had equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of the previous classifications.

  • Substation Technician: worked for at least 1 year as a qualified Substation Apprentice 4th Year, OR have had equivalent experience in related work, having all the qualifications of the previous classifications.

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Know Company's safety rules and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be willing and able to render practical first aid.

  • Know the location of, and be willing and able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires.

  • Hold a current Class A CDL license or be willing and able to obtain one within a specified time period.

  • Have knowledge of line and substation material and use of line and substation construction tools and equipment.

  • Must be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards, communicating issues and avoiding accidents.

  • Be willing and able to attend and take part in safety meetings.

COMPANY TESTING:

  • Successful completion of the EEI CAST test *if EEI CAST Test Recommended, notate on resume.

EEI Testing:

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing. If this position does require an EEI test, the type of test will be located under the qualifications section of the job posting.
