Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro and petroleum coke plants, with total engineering capacity of over 18,500 megawatts and is building or acquiring more than 3,000 megawatts of new natural gas generation to join its 30,000 megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities.

This position can be filled as a Chemistry Specialist I, II, or Sr dpeending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate


The central responsibility of this position is to provide and/or direct others on boiler water/steam cycle chemistry oversight, EPRI limit compliance, cooling water system oversight, corrosion generation and transport rates, water treatment systems, performance metrics, boiler acid cleans, pretreatment of water supply and manage Chemical vendors for the Fleet Maintenance Chemistry programs affecting fossil generation and specially assigned Support Sites. The incumbent will track chemistry compliance, development of chemistry site program and work in partnership with facility personnel to assist in ensuring chemistry compliance, and develop action plans to close gaps, where necessary.


  • Provides experienced guidance and interpretation regarding Boiler water/steam cycle, corrosion, and corrosion product generation, transport, and deposition on heat transfer and other power generation process equipment water and steam-touched surfaces; Cooling water system treatment issues; Water treatment equipment such as demineralizers, condensate polishers, cooling towers, and on-line cycle water chemistry analyzers. Conduct rounds and inspections to assess plant chemistry performance and compliance with EPRI limits and conditions. Document findings and develop action plans to close gaps and take action as needed

  • Accountable for the performance of the chemistry team and chemical results of the plant. Support fossil generation plants by maintaining clear and consistent records of all analytical results and provides leadership to less senior members of the team concerning water quality control. Ensure the water quality is within EPRI POE guidelines for asset protection for Fossil Generating Fleet. If not within EPRI POE guidelines notify plant management & in conjunction with others develop actions and required timeframe for gap closure plan. Performs over site for complex and routine chemical testing of products and processing materials. Advises based on quantitative evidence or advice from vendor/ experts or others provide consultation and problem solving to Entergy personnel on chemicals/product quality problems and provide a recommended course of action

  • Provide experienced Technical troubleshooting, Data review and trend monitoring, Pi trend reviews, Event Follow-up, Root cause analysis, Support Plant Maintenance Strategies, Reviewing and tracking system efficiency, provide information and training for operations, and sharing of lessons learned with internal peers

  • Provide experienced Budget responsibilities for Chemical budget at plant sites

  • Extensive familiarly with site specific environmental permits and plans. Work with Plant Manager, Environmental Specialist and State Environmental Group as support for environmental compliance

  • Provide experienced assistance in instrument procurement, installation, and research implementation. Makes recommendations pertaining to the following: research method development, lab operating procedures, training and oversight of Lab Assistants in the use of new instruments


Minimum education required of the position

  • BA or B.S. Degree in chemistry studies, engineering or a science-related field or equivalent work experience

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Chemistry Specialist I:0-4years of experience (with a degree) 2-4+ years of experience without a degree

  • Chemistry Specialist II: 6+ years of experience

  • Chemistry Specialist, Sr: 6+ years of experience

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Very good communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks simultaneously

  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting

  • Strong attention to details, strong analytical skills, strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Self-starter requiring little to no direction or supervision

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products

  • Very good organizational skills, ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Ability to work effectively on multiple assignments

  • Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities

  • Willing and able to perform other unrelated duties as required and learn new processes and technologies

  • Frequently interacts with chemistry professionals, management, staff and other departments throughout the system

  • Knowledge of tracking and trending for OIS/PI data is required

  • Knowledgeable of power generation fundamentals

  • Operational and financial database knowledge (GADRS, COGNOS, AIMM, ECART, PASSPORT) a plus
