The Director, Procurement Operations serves as an enterprise wide, supply chain leader with primary responsibility for centralized contracting & buying of services and materials, site-based procurement and procurement engineering and commercial grade dedication across the company’s Power Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Renewables, and Nuclear business functions. The primary objective is to create value through the supply chain in terms of safety, cost and performance. The role is responsible for the transformation of Procurement Operations from administrative provider to business partner, thereby creating a world class supply chain operation that is reflective and supportive of Entergy’s aspiration to become the Premier Utility.

The Director is a key member of the Chief Supply Chain Officer’s leadership team and is accountable for developing and implementing the Strategy and Roadmap that will drive Procurement Operations transformation. This will include defining and delivering key continuous improvement performance goals and metrics that support the strategy. It is critical that the Director partners with senior leaders internal and external to Supply Chain in pursuit of the value opportunities that benefit the company.

The role will represent Supply Chain and Procurement Operations in seeking approval of strategy and value opportunities at key leadership forums, for example, at the Entergy Suppler Governance Board and with the following business leadership teams: Chief Operating Officer, Chief Nuclear Officer, Utility Operations and Operating Companies, Corporate Business Services, Chief HR Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and General Counsel.

The Director, Procurement Operations also has a functional reporting relationship to the executive responsible for Nuclear Engineering and Technical Services for all matters concerning nuclear regulatory compliance.

This position will lead approximately 5 to 8 direct reports with a total headcount of around 150 employees and contractors.

The position location is somewhat flexible with a preference for Jackson, MS or New Orleans, LA. Houston, TX (Woodlands) would be considered for the right candidate. The position will require a minimum 25-30% travel.


Safety: Ensure the team always puts safety first. Actively promote strong safety behaviors within Entergy and externally with suppliers, utilizing key tools such as Close Call /Good Catch in addition to proactive job safety analysis and field visits to continuously review standards and behaviors at the workface. Working closely with Entergy’s safety department, the Director will proactively evaluate, monitor and influence suppliers to adopt a systematic approach to safety and ensure safety performance and risks are identified. Appropriate risk mitigation plans will be created in alignment with the business.

Central Contracting: Accountable for the development, coordination, negotiation, and management of contracts to obtain services in the most cost effective, efficient, and strategic method to meet the requirements of the organization. This includes strategy development and performance monitoring to drive process efficiency in sourcing, coordination of bid events, negotiations, contract issuance and post contract administration throughout the Source to Pay process. The position will require deep engagement with each Plant supply chain team, and with the Category Management and Warehousing, Inventory and Logistics teams to assist in the identification of opportunities to bundle products and services across the fleet, leverage spend, optimize the use of blanket contracts and ensure robust post-contract signature spend reporting and change management.

Central Procurement: Accountable for the development, coordination, negotiation, and administration of purchase orders to obtain components, spare parts and materials in the most cost effective, efficient, and strategic method to meet the requirements of the organization. This includes sourcing, coordination of bid events, negotiations, and purchase order issuance and administration throughout the Source to Pay process. The position will require deep engagement with each Plant supply chain team, and with the Category Management and Warehousing, Inventory and Logistics teams to assist in the identification of opportunities to bundle products and services across the fleet, leverage spend, optimize the use of blanket purchase orders and ensure robust post-PO signature spend reporting and delivery management.

Site Procurement: Accountable for the on-site (Plant) and field located support for the procurement of materials and services and the interface back to the central Procurement Operations and other Supply Chain teams. The position has a focus on demand planning, execution of operations and supporting outages in the field, engagement with plant leadership and stakeholders and creating the most efficient structure and process to deliver the site needs and create Plant value. The position will need to ensure that on-site customer facing is optimal including defining the level of service provided at site versus centrally, along with leveraging the central groups and strategic agreements for value and efficiency. Active field presence, workload management across the fleet and performance monitoring of delivery at site are key requirements.

Procurement Engineering & Commercial Grade Dedication: Currently this functional activity is Nuclear specific. Accountable for the establishment of accurate technical requirements and quality assurance, control and acceptance of Nuclear components in line with specific nuclear regulations. Ensure correct design requirements are specified and translated accurately into procurement requirements. A key development area for value is the creation and execution of a strategy for the expansion (potentially beyond Nuclear) of the Commercial Grade Dedication program.

Partnership & Performance: Expected to transform Procurement Operations from administrative provider to business partner that fully understands the business context, priorities, and challenges and moves to proactively solve near term issues within the frame of an overall strategy to deliver world class supply chain performance. Leverage of the Supply Chain Enablement organization to deliver effective performance reporting and analytics that supports the execution of the strategies above and the day-to-day operations of the Procurement Operations organization.

People Leadership: Accountable for leading the Procurement Operations team and creating and communicating a clear strategy, direction and objectives to become a world class organisation. Managing and developing the human resources and capability to deliver at the highest standard, including optimizing and deploying resources centrally versus site. Leveraging the Supply Chain Talent Management Strategy and key HR processes to ensure the right Supply Chain talent is recruited, developed, retained, and deployed in line with key business priorities and the required individual performance expectations.

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Accounting, Engineering, Legal, Finance, or other related disciplines

Preferred - MBA in Supply Chain or Business.

Minimum experience required of the position

A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in procurement operations or related supply chain activities, with at least 5 of those years in senior managerial positions leading large, geographically dispersed teams and central groups.

Preferred -Experience in supply chain operations within the Nuclear Utility industry sector.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Certification from an industry accreditation organization such as CPSM, APICS, etc.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Agile strategic and analytical thinker with the proven ability to create and execute organizational and staff resourcing strategies which deliver efficient and quality customer service.

  • Deep business and commercial acumen, with broad-based knowledge of procurement operations and processes, category management, strategic sourcing, supplier diversity and supplier relationship management.

  • Extensive knowledge of process optimization, change management and continuous improvement methods, and the application to daily activities to drive performance improvement.

  • Demonstrable capabilities in leading and aligning diverse teams across multiple geographies, operating sites, central offices, and effectively integrating centralized procurement operations for maximum, efficient customer service.

  • Ability to lead others through ambiguity and drive consensus within the Supply Chain leadership team.

  • Capability to be a trusted advisor; leader/coach in identifying what is important to the customer base.

  • Strong collaborative, realtionship management, and negotiation and influencing skills.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and creative problem solving skills.
