The Manager, Technical Services is responsible for providing technical support and services directly to the Grid organizations, including equipment troubleshooting needs. This position provides the leadership and oversight of technical experts for transmission equipment which includes providing input on equipment specifications, coordinating factory acceptance testing for new equipment purchased and manage equipment vendor interface and relationships. This includes evaluation and identification of equipment failures and developing plans to address equipment bulletins that are issued from manufacturers. Additionally, the group is responsible for supporting critical NERC PRC and CIP compliance requirements for in-service and newly commissioned protection and control equipment.
Responsible for providing technical and troubleshooting resources to the Grid organizations.
Provides input and review for new and modifications to equipment specifications.
Leads systemwide Grid initiatives for in service substation equipment issues, including relay protection & control devices.
Coordination of Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs) activities for newly purchased equipment including review and certification of manufacturers and manufacturing facilities.
Review, analyze and develop plans to implement manufacturer bulletins for identified equipment concerns or deficiencies.
Responsibility for completing equipment related causal determinations (CD) and validation of root cause failure analysis.
Maintain relationships with key equipment vendors and serve as an interface point to support the coordination between Grids and vendors as needed.
Responsible for providing analysis of relay maloperations, performance for outages and events, and identifying actions to correct and prevent recurrence or maloperations.
Support for key NERC PRC and CIP compliance requirements associated with protection and control equipment including the successful adherence to requirements for commissioning of new assets.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- At least 10 years of engineering and/or operational experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated exceptional leadership ability.
Excellent interpersonal skills; team player.
Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects.
Thorough understanding of transmission procedures, programs, and standards.
Strong organizational skills with ability to lead multiple workgroups and projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of utility electric system design and operations.
Knowledge of budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.
Knowledge of FERC, NERC, and SERC regulatory requirements.
