Primary responsibility for the Motor Operated Valve program engineer is to perform work activities and projects requiring the application of technical knowledge in a safe, cost effective and efficient way.
Establish MOV program criteria.
Prepare and maintain design standards and the MOV Program documents.
Establish or implement industry-accepted methodologies.
Interface with the industry MOV users groups.
Interface with site valve engineers.
Evaluate and direct actions in response to changing regulatory requirements (for example, Generic Letters, Part 21) and industry issues (such as operating experience).
Perform design basis reviews/evaluations.
Perform MOV design thrust and torque calculations.
Determine limit switch (torque, limit) setting requirements.
Review and approve MOV-related design output documents.
Provide appropriate reference materials to personnel performing or reviewing MOV calculations, establishing and tracking specific MOV settings, and performing other related engineering tasks, such as engineer evaluations.
Trend and evaluate MOV performance data and issue periodic trending reports.
Identify inputs needed to update the MOV Program.
Additional Skills and Responsibilities:
Ability to use analytical techniques necessary to handle moderate to complex outages, projects, and assignments. Ability to interpret and apply engineering specifications and standards, codes and regulations to performance of job duties. Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and/or outage/project schedule. Be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively using technical reports and presentations.
Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization, and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned, and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
Perform all duties, and work with other employees in a safe manner, in compliance with appropriate company safety policies and rules.
Minimum education required of the position
B.S. Degree in Engineering or other closely related scientific discipline / physical science generally associated with power plant operations, or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience is defined as demonstrated success at the Engineer / Technical Specialist level.)
Minimum experience required of the position
Engineer I: 0-2 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Engineer II: 2-4 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Engineer III: 3 – 5 years experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Good to excellent communication skills. Experience/proficiency in PC use and applications, depending upon engineering level.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
Desired: SRO license or certification on a PWR or BWR; Professional Engineering license.
