Design Engineering is the design authority and owner of the design bases. Fire Protection, which resides in the Design Engineering Department, is responsible for maintaining fire protection design control and providing technical support to the plant in the area of fire
protection. Design integrity of the Fire Protection program is maintained through effective configuration control of design output documents (i.e., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures).
Maintain the Fire Protection Design Basis at the site.
Ensure the three Fire Protection defense-in-depth echelons are maintained; 1) to prevent fires from starting (combustible/hot-workcontrols), 2) rapidly detect, control and extinguish fires that do occur thereby limiting damage (fire detection systems, automatic firesuppression, manual fire suppression, pre-fire plans), and 3) provide adequate level of fire protection for systems and structures sothat a fire will not prevent essential safety functions from being performed (fire barriers, fire-rated cable, success path remains free offire damage, recovery actions).
Provide cost-effective modification designs to improve the fire protection program and the safe shutdown capability of the plant.
Provide Fire Protection technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and other site organizations.
Develop, plan and coordinate or implement special projects, corrective action plans, and improvement programs to address fireprotection plant problems or regulatory sensitive issues.
Ensures fire protection engineering products are performed in accordance with the site’s fire protection program and are implementedconsistent with defined standards and procedures.
Consistent with the site’s licensing basis, prepare fire protection impact reviews and evaluations, combustible load and suppressioncapability calculations, and fire hazards analyses.
Minimum education require d of the position
B.S. Degree in Engineering or other closely related scientific disciplines/physical science generally associated with power plant operations or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at the engineer/technicalspecialist level.)

Minimum experience required of the position
Engineer, I: 0 – 2 years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Engineer, II: 2 – 3 years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Engineer, III: 3 – 5 years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Engineer, Sr, Sr Lead: 6+ years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level
Desired: 5+ years’ experience in Fire Protection Engineering
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
Good to excellent communication skills. Experience/proficiency in P C use and applications, depending upon the engineering level.
Desired: Technical knowledge of 10CFR50.48, BTP APCSB 9.5-1, Reg. Guide 1.189 and NFPA 805. Background in nuclear plant shutdown capability analysis including non-power operations. Proficiency in computer codes ARC+, CLM, and HASS.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
Desired: Professional Engineering license.
