JOB SUMMARY:

The central responsibility of this position is to manage NPDES waste water, 404 / Section 10 permitting and related environmental programs affecting electrical power generation. The position requires excellent communications and writing skills, project management skills, a broad knowledge of ACOE, LADNR and the NPDES permitting process, the ability and willingness to quickly acquire a broad-based knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, familiarity with the rulemaking process, flexibility for day / overnight travel as required to complete assigned duties, and proven leadership and teamwork skills.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES :

  • Track federal and state environmental regulatory developments affecting electric utility generators and assist in the development and communication of actions plans for compliance with new or pending regulations

  • This includes analyzing proposed and newly-adopted environmental laws, regulations and policies and explaining these developments

  • Communicate and distribute concise, timely and accurate summaries of these developments to Power Generation management and employees

  • Excellent people skills are required to maintain good relationship with coworkers and key customers

  • Ability to influence change and to handle multiple issues and projects simultaneously

  • Represent the Company in the state environmental rulemaking process by participating in work groups and drafting written comment letters, as appropriate

  • Work in successful partnership with power plants to assist in ensuring regulatory compliance with NetDMR, LPDES program implementation and oversight, internal environmental safety & health assessments, and to develop action plans to close gaps

  • Manage consultants, contracts, and invoices as required

  • Ability to interface and work with internal business groups outside of environmental support

  • Actively supports Power Generation (PG) environmental initiatives

  • Negotiate environmental permits, letters of no objection, and issues with federal, state and local regulatory agencies on the Company's behalf to arrive at a favorable solution/outcome

  • Represent the Company in assigned environmental work groups and organizations, communicating best practices and industry developments to Power Generation environmental management

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Minimum education :

  • BA or B.S. Degree in environmental studies, engineering or a science-related field or equivalent work experience

Minimum Experience :

  • Analyst I-III: 0-3 years experience in wastewater or multimedia environmental compliance for industrial operations

  • Analyst Sr: 7+ years experience in environmental compliance for industrial operations

  • Desired: Experience with natural gas, coal, oil, or nuclear power plants

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work tasks simultaneously

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting

  • Strong attention to details

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Self-starter and requires little or no supervision

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Ability to work effectively on multiple assignments

  • Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities

  • Willing and able to perform other unrelated duties as required and learn new processes and technologies

  • Knowledge of power generation fundamentals a plus
