JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

The Head of Labor Relations will be responsible for the development and implementation of the labor relations strategies and programs for the Nuclear, Transmission, Distribution, and Power Generation business lines within Entergy. This position is accountable for providing labor policy and labor relations advice to the organization. The main responsibilities include developing and leading the programs and policies that support a best in class workplace to maintain and improve a positive employee and labor relation process for the organization.

In addition to serving as the head of Labor Relations, this position provides oversight over Entergy’s foreign national H1B compliance strategy and its unemployment claims and hearings process.

The incumbent will have responsibilities for direct management and oversight of the labor relations team of six employees.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and arbitrations for Entergy’s 28 collective bargaining agreements

  • Sets the long- and short-term strategy for the organization to better align labor relations programs with business goals and strategies. Coordinate and manage cross-organizational issues impacting LR Strategy

  • Sets the long and short-term strategy for the organization to better align its H1B foreign national strategy with the business goals and strategies

  • Collaborates with other functional areas including operations, HR, finance, legal and other internal stakeholders; develops creative solutions to improving the work environment and labor and employee relations

  • Collaborates with external stakeholders to develop creative solutions to both company and industry challenges.

  • Understands the national labor relations issues and grievance trends for the organization; develops approaches and solutions to pro-actively address negative trends

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional employment legislation matters; coaches leaders on the latest trends impacting the organization.

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional compensation, perquisites, benefits, and work practices; directs communication campaigns to ensure that employees understand work environment expectations and available services

  • Develops and manages the 5 year strategic plan for areas of responsibility provided to this role

  • Coaches and mentors managers, leaders, and human resource managers and directors on labor relations, enhancing the work environment, and maintaining healthy relationships with and among employees

  • Maintains ability to represent and present the company’s position in a grievance/arbitration

  • Advises and update senior leadership advisory team on the negotiations progress of the company as well as new initiatives with labor relations impacts

  • Serves as executive lead and provide governance over Entergy’s unemployment claims, hearings and appeals

  • Serves as executive lead and provide governance over Entergy’s policies that address discipline, issue resolution, nepotism, drug and alcohol, and export controls

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information

  • Other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources or related business field required.

JD is preferred but not required.

Minimum experience required of the position

Fifteen (15+) or more years of relevant labor relations experience in a union environment required. Seven (7+) or more years of managerial experience required

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Must have a thorough understanding of National Labor Relations Act, progressive discipline process, negotiating strategy, economics of a labor contract, union avoidance, strike situations, and communication requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of labor relations rules and regulations at the federal and state level.

  • Familiarity with costing a labor contract and costing enterprise wide initiatives that impact local collective bargaining.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Thorough knowledge of industry labor relations practices

  • Ability to build relationships with internal teams, clients, and union leadership

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization

  • Highly organized

  • Travel requirement outside of immediate area (more than 30%)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment with minimal physical requirements. As a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties.
