Job Summary/Purpose

Provide a high level of subject matter expertise in environmental and natural resources policy and regulation in support of the company’s Environmental Policy, Sustainability, and Environmental Management Systems and Audit work; support the assessment of those issues and their impact on Entergy; support planning for both advocacy on and implementation of such developments; Provide support to Investor Relations and Communications on the same.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Monitor new legislation and regulatory developments impacting or originating at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Interior (including U.S. Fish and Wildlife), the Department of Commerce (NOAA and National Marine Fisheries Agency), similar federal agencies, and the parallel state agencies in Entergy’s service territory; assess developments for impact on Entergy

  • Interact with internal subject matter experts (environmental; resource planning; Power Generation; Nuclear; Utility Operations; Transmission) and the Operating Companies to develop Entergy’s corporate view of legislation and regulation described above; develop official comments and advocacy planning on same; work with Corporate Communications and Operating Company communications leads to develop talk points on same and prepare management for advocacy;

  • Provide support to business unit environmental support programs (Power Generation, Utility Operations, Nuclear) in developing environmental and natural resource policy responses and, as needed, compliance implementation

  • Support the Sr. Mgr., Environmental Management Systems and Audits in managing the internal company-wide Safety, Health, and Environmental Management System (SHEMS) audit program and in continuous improvement of environmental management systems across the enterprise

  • Support the Director, Sustainability in integration of environmental policy issues into the corporate sustainability strategy development and resulting enterprise-wide efforts and in the environmental and natural resources aspects of sustainability reporting (DJSI; EEI template; ISS ESG; MSCI; Sustainalytics, etc.)

  • Provide information and documentation support for Investor Relations in communicating with owners regarding environmental and natural resources requirements and developments

  • Interact with key environmental policy trade groups (EEI; Class of ’85; Clean Energy Group; Chamber of Commerce; Cross-Cutting Issues Group; Utility Solid Waste Act Group; Energy and Wildlife Action Coalition; others) to assert Entergy’s position on developments to be included in comments to and advocacy with federal and state environmental and natural resources agencies

  • Support the role of the Director, Environmental Policy, including the coordination of the enterprise-wide Environmental Lead Team, the “core” environmental lead team, and RCRC/UCRC risk review and documentation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred.

7+ years

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

In-depth understanding of and experience with environmental and natural resources policy issues (climate, air, water/wetlands, solid and hazardous waste, species, NEPA). Ability to engage with and advocate within legislative, administrative/regulatory, and industry group structures. Confidence in inspirational leadership abilities. Capability in gaining consensus and initiating change. Strength in communication and project management skills.
