JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Data Analyst I, II, III, Sr, Sr Lead, Sr Staff is a valuable member of the analytics delivery team who performs deep data analysis and visualization for several diagnostic and descriptive analytics use cases. The Data Analyst works on end-to-end solutions as part of a team, designs innovative analytic products and responsible for pulling and cleaning datasets, evaluating products, and presenting results to key stakeholders.

The Data Analyst has in depth knowledge and skill in data analysis and reporting visualization platforms (PowerBI, Qlik and Tableau etc.), understand the business requirements and transform the requirements into a meaningful visualization proposed by the designer. The Data Analyst conducts deep dive data analysis to find trends important for the organization and to help prepare data for the end products whether diagnostics/ descriptive or predictive/ prescriptive. This person is expected to be expertise in queries as well SME on core metrics an organization deems important. In addition, can write scripts and produce intuitive visuals providing business insights around a design proposed by a designer.

Analysis performed by the position will be shared within Entergy to support the various initiatives underway that have an analytical need which will ultimately impact Entergy’s generation assets, load resources, customer view, and product and services offered to the customer. The Data Analyst will be knowledgeable in majority of the analytics concepts and collaborate with the data engineering, data governance team and our IT organization partners to build and industrialize the analytics POC/ MVPs and final products.

The Data Analyst will promote data and analytics products laterally to other business users and horizontally to upper management and executives.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Analyze and interpret data related to products to determine potential opportunities and formulate recommendations. Presents findings and suggestions to stakeholders with ample justification. Assist in developing detailed business plans for a product roadmap. Aid stakeholders in implementing the plan.

  2. Conducts complex business analysis based on project scope and objectives; develops recommendations and steers team based on findings. Collaborates with cohort and leadership on the assigning of projects based on skill set and expertise.

  3. Work as part of the delivery team in developing best in practice analytics products meeting strategic business requirements that ultimately enable business units to unlock additional value from company-held data.

  4. Use data from a variety of sources (databases, web, text files) and in a variety of formats (structured, unstructured etc.) and prepares the data for analysis.

  5. Perform analytics, produce business cases, evaluate results, and build analytics products which generate business value and assist in the deployment/integration process.

  6. Work with data engineers to produce descriptive manual POCs/ MVPs and products providing valuable insights for business decision making. 

  7. Act as SME and thought leader for solving complex business problems by exploring and adopting to new and improved advanced data analysis concepts and tools.

  8. Collaborates and coordinates with Entergy business functions and internal departments to ensure feasibility of the developed solution. Define operational requirements for product through its lifetime and identify partners required to deliver product to market.

  9. Be a champion for Entergy’s Analytics efforts both inside and outside of the organization, promoting collaboration and communication through business unit driven use cases whilst building the Entergy brand in the analytics space.

  10. Work as part of the delivery team in developing best in practice analytics products meeting strategic business requirements that ultimately enable business units to unlock additional value from company-held data.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

A bachelor or master’s in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering etc.) or equivalent experience.

Data Analyst I:

Required:

  • 0-2 years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems

  • 0-2 years in visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Python visuals, and other relevant tools and packages

  • 1+ years developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack (Python strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Experience working in big data environments

Data Analyst II:

Required:

  • 2+ years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems

  • 2+ years in visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Python visuals, and other relevant tools and packages

  • 2+ years developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack (Python strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Experience working in big data environments

  • 2+ years experience working in the electric and/or gas utility sector

Data Analyst III:

Required:

  • 3-4 years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems

  • 3+ years developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack (Python strongly preferred)

  • 3+ years in visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Python visuals, and other relevant tools and packages

Preferred:

  • 3+ years experience using automated machine learning tools within Python and advanced knowledge of model tuning, evaluation, and finalization

  • Experience working in big data environments and experience developing advanced machine learning models (e.g. Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM, and so on)

  • 3+ years experience working in the electric and/or gas utility sector

Data Analyst, Sr:

Required:

  • 4+ years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems

  • 4+ years in visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Python visuals, and other relevant tools and packages

  • 4+ years developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack (Python strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Experience working in big data environments and experience developing advanced machine learning models (e.g. Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM, and so on)

  • 4+ years experience using automated machine learning tools within Python and advanced knowledge of model tuning, evaluation, and finalization

  • 4+ years experience working in the electric and/or gas utility sector

Data Analyst, Sr Lead:

Required:

  • 6+ years in a data analytics role utilizing mathematics and/or machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems

  • 5+ years in visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Python visuals, and other relevant tools and packages

  • 5+ years developing with SQL, Python, R, or any advanced analytics tech stack (Python strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Experience working in big data environments and experience developing advanced machine learning models (e.g. Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM, and so on)

  • 5+ years experience using automated machine learning tools within Python and advanced knowledge of model tuning, evaluation, and finalization

  • 5+ years experience working in the electric and/or gas utility sector

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Mastery in at least one of the following is absolutely required: SQL, Python and at least one visualization tool.

  • SME in data analysis and modeling

  • Ability to perform basic to intermediate-level Data Science-related tasks (e.g. modeling in Python, building a training/test database, evaluating results, and presentation of results).

  • Desire to grow analytics skills to in modeling and Data Science to an advanced level with peer guidance

  • SME in data visualization and at least one of related tools like Power BI, Qlik or Tableau

  • SME to implement and utilize advanced statistical and machine learning techniques

  • Communicator both at technical and strategic levels

  • Experience discussing complex and new topics in a simple, easy-to-understand way.

  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.

  • Demonstrated writing and presentation skills.

OTHER ATTRIBUTES
