Brief Position Description

The OT infrastructure engineer is responsible for delivery of infrastructure services for Operations Technology (OT) including servers, Operating System builds, databases, storage, hosting, configuration management, asset lifecycle, virtualization, backups, and disaster recovery. The engineer will enforce sustainable processes and standards and drive automation opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and improve quality and stability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implement the infrastructure strategy, roadmap and delivery plans for Operational Technology (OT) in coordination with the Architecture functions

  • Support day-to-day operations and maintenance of infrastructure systems/components involved in delivering Operational Technology for Entergy, including servers, Operating System builds, databases, storage, hosting, configuration management, asset lifecycle, virtualization, backups, and disaster recovery

  • Ensure OT infrastructure operations comply with specific requirements of North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Nuclear Cyber (10 CFR 73.54)

  • Support NRC and NERC audits, and other compliance programs as required

  • Monitor and assess emerging cyber security threats applicable to digital industrial control and process monitoring technology with appropriate responses to such threats and mitigating strategies to the nuclear sites

  • Maintain technologies over time to align with standards, as defined by the EA strategy

  • Manage the supporting vendor(s) to ensure they are meeting services levels (requirements and quality) and aligning to Entergy stated standards, e.g., security, architecture, quality

  • Support delivery of world-class IT and OT infrastructure, including power generation units, nuclear plants, electric substations, SCADA, distribution automation, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

  • Assist with oversight of duties specific to control centers, data centers, plants or sites (e.g. Nuclear, Fossil, substation), including serving as an advocate for safe operations and continuous improvement

  • Maintain operational support, ensuring production systems and devices are online and available; this includes non-business hours on-call support

  • Track metrics for the effectiveness, maturity, and availability of infrastructure supporting security and OT

Experiences needed

  • three to five years of infrastructure operations experience across multiple disciplines (monitoring, network engineering, mobile devices, various endpoint architectures, application security, physical environments, etc.)

  • One year of relevant technology delivery with Subject Matter Expertise for Operational Technology at a generating site

  • Testing of real time systems applications and enhancements

  • Experience in building cyber resilient architecture, implement best practices to secure network and application infrastructure, protect information against unauthorized data access and loss, risk reduction and vulnerability mitigation

  • Experience with a broad range of technologies required to support OT infrastructure, such as Windows, Linux, VMWare, NetApp, EMC storage, Commvault, etc.

  • Experience with electric utility customer service, distribution grid technologies and SCADA operations, e.g., Smart Grid, AMI, SCADA, meter data management systems (MDMS), etc.

  • Experience working with outsourced teams

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Experience working in partnership with colleagues throughout the enterprise and in collaborative teams to achieve common goals

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Knowledge of IT Security regulations and guidance such as NIST, FISMA & ISO27001

  • Knowledge of digital systems and components that support nuclear power plant design and operation, including reactor safety systems, electric power generation systems, security systems, and emergency preparedness systems

  • Technical engineering and process management skills and the ability to advocate positive transformation within the broader information technology organization

  • Knowledge of multiple UNIX OS platforms and Windows-based operating systems

  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies like VMWare, NetApp, EMC storage, Commvault,

  • Knowledge of networking concepts - firewalls, load-balancers, and network design

  • Knowledgeable in security ramifications of energy related regulations (SOX, HIPAA, NERC CIP, FERC, and NRC Nuclear Cyber (10 CFR 73.54)

  • Knowledge of security, risk, and control frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001 and 27002, SANS-CAG, NIST, FISMA, COBIT, COSO and ITIL

  • Knowledge of current IT Security trends

  • Working knowledge with scripting languages such as Perl or Python

  • Strong report writing and ability to effectively communicate across the IT organization

  • Available to travel

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to follow up on multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Capable of meeting deadlines


Associate’s degree in computer science, cyber security or a related discipline or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Preferred Certificates, licenses, etc.

ISACA certification, such as CISSP, CISM, CISA

Relevant vendor credentials offered by companies such as Cisco, NetApp, Microsoft
