Job Summary/Purpose
Act as the company liaison and technical support for Distribution Automation analysis, design, execution, and troubleshooting of distribution field devices. Acts as the Distribution Automation liaison and technical support for Entergy’s Grid Modernization efforts, working closely with the area distribution protection engineers and field support specialists. Responsible for but not limited to: Performing a wide variety of engineering analysis, project oriented engineering activities supporting Distribution automation and control theory, support the distribution 10 year Capital plan and the Joint T&D component of the transmission capital plan, provide technical support to distribution design engineers, operations, and managed accounts as it relates to Field equipment automation and communications, and participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm and outage event restoration duties.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Develop, enhance, and support distribution control settings templates for Reclosers, Regulators, Capacitors, Switchgear, and other SCADA capable devices.
Create and maintain SCADA standards for distribution controls that are aligned with the Distribution Management System.
Provide technical support to Distribution Automation Engineers, Field Support Specialist, and Operations as it relates to distribution field equipment automation and communications.
Manage the Distribution Automation and Renewable Technologies lab RTDS simulator including integrations to SCADA enable distribution controls and power flow models.
Perform post automation event and failed transfer analysis and audits.
Work with Transmission organization to develop and implement distribution substation automation.
Complete DA device firmware and settings modification testing and associated change management.
Participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm and outage restoration duties.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution.
Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
Desired: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree
Minimum experience required of the position
Engineer III: 4+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline.
Engineer Sr: 6+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Technical mastery of engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area. Consistently drives for value in sound engineering decisions. Mentors other engineers and technical professionals. Good leadership skills. Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent math skills. Excellent project management skills. Good knowledge of Personal Computer operations and related software. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Required to work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base. Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change.
