Job Summary/Purpose

Entergy is transforming its Products and Services function, developing new and innovative solutions that are responsive to evolving customer needs. The Distributed Energy Resource Design Engineer plays a critical role in this transformation by leading engineering design work in support of the team’s efforts to develop and implement customer-driven solutions that utilize distributed energy resources (DERs) for residential, commercial, and industrial customers across all of Entergy’s gas and electric service territories in Texas, Louisiana, New Orleans, Arkansas, and Mississippi. DER product categories in scope include solar PV, energy storage, back-up generation, demand response, electric vehicles, etc. This person will be responsible for leading and performing the engineering design for DERs including: electrical system design, interconnection design, protection design, and installation and testing plan design. Additionally, the successful candidate will support various company strategic initiatives related to grid modernization and DER integration, provide mentorship to other Entergy employees, and be the company’s thought-leader on all things related to DER design. Lastly, this person will represent Entergy’s interests in various industry forums and develop / maintain relationships with DER vendors.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Lead and perform engineering design for DERs including electrical system design, interconnection design, protection design, and installation and testing plan design.

Perform system impact studies and develop design to meet IEEE and Entergy standards on voltage imbalance, power factor, flicker, reliability, etc..

Create and coordinate the delivery and quality assurance of engineering drawings and designs..

Develop DERs models and simulation plans for short circuit and electromagnetic transient simulations in ASPEN, EMTP, PSCAD, RTDS, HYPERSIM, etc..

Perform hardware-in-the loop relay testing, inverter and controller evaluation and recommend solutions related to the integration of DERs into the distribution system and further their impacts to the distribution and transmission system.

Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and monitoring technology developments in the area of power system modelling, simulation, and analytics.

Miniumum Requirements

Education required of the position

BS Engineering

Preferred: Electrical Engineer

Experience required of the position

+2 years of experience designing and testing DERs.

+2 years of experience performing engineering design for a utility or similar organization.

Strong engineering analysis and problem solving skills.

Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards.

Preferred:Experience performing engineering analyses in support of commercial operations.

Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Sr Engineer - 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Skills and abilities required of the position

Strong engineering judgment.

Strong communicator both at tactical and strategic levels with experience discussing complex topics in a simple, easy-to-understand way.

Strong demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to execute projects in a matrix organization.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Professional Engineering License desired.
