JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for processes related to the real time updates of generation offers for energy and ancillary services, LMRs, and fuel dispatch in an ISO market. This includes development and execution of market strategies to optimize energy committed to an ISO market, minimization of market risk for Entergy stakeholders, as well as frequent communication with generating plant personnel to achieve designated set points, fossil fuel supply group, and next day market operations for implementation and modification of unit parameters, unit testing, outage coordination and fuel supply changes. In addition, this position serves a key role in strategy development, organizational training, and overall process improvement related to ISO market operations.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage real-time operations of generation portfolio, including dispatching of units based upon economic conditions and operational constraints to meet MISO market parameters, IMM expectations and Entergy’s internal set point compliance as well as NERC performance standards

  • Coordinate unit availability, testing, outage schedules, unit startup and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary information to plant personnel, market operations, and fuel supply personnel

  • Has the authority to take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions without obtaining approval from higher level personnel

  • Communicate with the Local Balancing Authority, MISO, Transmission Control Centers, and Transmission Operators taking necessary actions and providing ancillary services to ensure the reliability of the Entergy footprint

  • Analyze and react to market conditions to make prudent business decisions for Entergy’s generation fleet

  • Maintain rotating shift schedules working 12-hour shifts and adhere to all compliance measures and support initiatives as requested

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education:

  • BS/BA in a technical field such as Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent work experience

Minimum experience:

  • Sys Dispatcher I: at least 0-2 years’ experience

  • Sys Dispatcher II : at least 2-4 years’ experience

  • Sr. Sys Dispatcher : at least 4-6 years’ experience

  • Desired:

  • Requires ability to learn conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within a discipline

  • Applies general knowledge of business developed through training, education or past experience

  • Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems; analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments

  • Experience with MISO Portal, CROW, Alstom GMS, PCI GenManager, OISoft PI System

  • Experience with natural gas pipeline nomination and operations

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Certifications required:

  • Sys Dispatcher I-II : Preferred NERC System Operator Certification (RC) or shall obtain within 12 months

  • Sr. Sys Dispatcher : NERC System Operator Certification (RC) required
